My story "Lana Turner Slept Here" is included in this anthology. I'm so excited to be part of this venture. The cover is in color. Here is a link to the artist's - Maya Gonzalez - website which shows her original painting.

That is awesome. I just bookmarked both site.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.
Congrats, Sandra. Just out of curiosity, when did you start getting published? Or, for that matter, when did you start sending out your work? I still cringe at the thought of judgement, but I suppose, one has to get over that hump.
ReplyDeleteI think I had my first piece published in 2002, so that means I must have sent it out months, maybe even a full year, before.
ReplyDeleteI need to do more. It's not as if I don't write --- I have a backlog of short stories and flash fiction I could get out.
Took a class with Aimee Bender (Girl in the Flammable Skirt), and she advised to always have a few things in circulation. This was before her collection was published. She'd get something back, and send it right back out.
There is a lot of rejection involved. Ouch! Feel the pain, and move on.
Workshops and online critiques (Zoetrope) help build up a few callouses in that regard.
Thanks for the advice. As it is, I'm starting a new literary magazine with some friends. We'll have an online edition soon. If you're interested, visit the blog and submit something. The more solid writing - and voices - the better.
